More Than the Land: Being Right with the Lord
Share
At Guard the Homestead, we believe in hard work. We believe in tending the land, providing for our families, and living free. But none of that matters—not one acre, not one dollar, not one possession—if we’re not right with the Lord.
Too many today are chasing the world’s idea of success: more land, more gear, more attention, more comfort. But Jesus asked a question that cuts through it all:
"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" — Mark 8:36 (KJV)
You could own a thousand acres, have barns full of livestock, a beautiful house, and all the equipment you could dream of—and still be spiritually bankrupt.
What Does It Mean to Be Right with God?
Being right with God doesn’t mean being perfect. It means:
- Obeying the gospel (Romans 6:3–4)
- Living faithfully according to God’s Word (John 14:15)
- Keeping our hearts clean from sin (Acts 3:19)
- Walking in the light—not just knowing the truth, but living it (1 John 1:7)
It means that no matter how “successful” we are by this world’s standards, we remember we’re just stewards—not owners—of the land, the money, and the time God gave us.
Earthly Blessings Are Temporary
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth… But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." — Matthew 6:19–21
As homesteaders, we spend a lot of time preparing. We prep food, livestock, fencing, shelter, and finances. But are we preparing our souls? Are we storing up treasure where moth and rust can't touch?
Time to Reflect
Here’s a truth we can’t ignore: One day this land will pass. This life will end. And all that will matter is whether or not we were right with the Lord.
So today, if you’ve been chasing the world… If you’ve been working hard but neglecting the Word… If you’ve been outwardly strong but inwardly lost…
Return to the Lord. Seek Him. Obey Him. And let Him direct your steps. Because everything we build down here means nothing—if we miss Heaven.
